Question
Is my understanding correct that a solar return chart is run for your birthday in the current year, and is a read on what energies are in play for the entire year?  Are transits applicable to this during the year?

Hi Diane,

Yes, that is correct. The Solar Return chart is a chart cast for the time and date the transiting Sun returns to the exact natal Sun's position (natal being your personal basic chart).

I consider the Solar Return chart (or Lunar Return, or Venus Return, or Mars Return, etc.) to be a modifying symbolic influence regarding one's timing. I advise to avoid putting too much emphasis on it, but you can get some good info from it.

Yes, transits can be applicable to this during the year. Also note the placement of the angles (1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th cusps) in each, where the key planets of the natal chart reside in the return chart, etc., and the other way around too. For example, is the 7th house cusp in the natal chart the Ascendant in the Solar return chart? If so, relationships (and other 7th house matters) are given special emphasis for the year.
