Astrology/Ascendant???

Question
I'm having terrible trouble trying to figure out what my ascendant is...I'm a female, I was born in Murfreesboro TN, at 1:40 p.m., September 3, 1993. I've been getting free birth charts off of the internet for quite sometime now. For awhile, all of the birth charts said that I had a Sagittarius ascendant, it didn't really seem to fit with me but I just went along with it anyway. The other day I realized that the place on the internet where I got it done said that the time zone was unsure. Everyone had been putting the time zone as "5" when the local time zone is really "-6", which would give me a cancer ascendant. I changed the time zone and the cancer ascendant REALLY fit me, but everywhere else that I get a birth chart, where you don't have the option of putting in the time zone, I get sagittarius again. I'm so confused what is my ascendant??? I really feel that it's cancer, but I don't know.

Answer
If your birth information is correct you do have a Sagittarius Ascendant.  All time is based on GMT or Greenwich mean time, the time zone you live in is Central Standard Time or CST.  Right now the time in England, as I write this is 3:45PM, in your time zone its 10:45 AM or 5 hours before if it was not daylight savings time it would be six hours.  In astrology we need to make the mathematical calculation between local time and GMT, to do this we make it + or - GMT from where we are the - means we are six hours behind GMT but when we use Universal time in an ephemeris we need to use a +or - and add the time because the ephemeris are based on time either Noon or midnight GMT. I know this sounds very complicated, and its very difficult to explain this way, but the fact is you do have a Sagittarius ascendant.

If you do not relate to your ascendant it can be for several reasons, one is that you have an incorrect birth time, the other is you cannot judge your personality by just the ascendant alone you need to look at where your ruling planet is, what aspects it makes what planets are making aspects to your Ascendant.  The best way to look at your chart is to go over it with a qualified astrologer who can help you figure it all out. Major transits to your ascendant can help you tell if your ascendant works for you.
