Astrology/two signs in the same house?
Expert: LeLonni Campbell - 1/29/2009
QuestionI have been interested in astrology for many years now, but the more I delve into my interest, the more I realize how much I don't know! I hope this doesn't seem like an ignorant question, but is it possible to have two signs in the same house? For example, based on my chart, aries seems to be predominant in my first house, but pisces in my ascendent. Thanks for you help, Lesley
AnswerYou are talking about what is known astrologically as an intercepted house. Astrologers use many types of house systems, some are equal some are not, meaning each house does not have the same amount of degree's as each of the others. House in an unequal system can be anywhere from 15 degrees to 75 degrees. Interceptions occur the further north or south you get form the equator. The further from the equator the less even the houses can be, so if you have a large house with many degrees in it, you sort of squeeze out the ability for a sign to present itself. We always have two intercepted houses as the signs work as pairs in the case of the houses. At very high north or low south latitudes you can have a chart with more than one interception.
If your chart is not an interception it could just be the degrees of your house cusps and planets. The way a planet goes into a house is mathematical so if you have 25 degrees of Pisces on the ascendant and 28 degrees on Aries on the second house cusp any planet that falls between those degree will end up in the first house.
I hope this has helped you understand your houses, it can be complicated and no matter how long you study your always learning new things.
