Question
QUESTION: Hi again Scott

I've asked you a question before and you were a big help to me.  I have one more question.  Can you tell me how astrolgers handle the issue of eastern daylight time, vs. eastern standard time?

I was born on in NYC in the summer when it was eastern daylight time but yet, when I go to figure my chart, how would I handle that differnce in time.

I was born at 9:45 am EDT in New York City.  Secondly, when horoscopes are interpreted during the change in hours, does the astrologer account for the time difference?

ANSWER: Sharon,

I'm glad to have been of help. While there is a full
Moon tomorrow, I said "(it's at)...about 10:35 p.m.
EST."

I should have said "...EDT," although it's true that
if one says "EST" under Daylight Saving Time, it's
acknowledged they really mean EDT.

Most software programs include the changes from
Standard time to Daylight time and back again. You can
call this moment any time you want, and as long
as the heavenly bodies are synchronized with the
clock time, it doesn't matter.

If you were born under EDT, then you just make
sure that your calculations are under that
guideline. Most software programs automatically
make that adjustment.

Yes, the astrologer does account for the time
difference.

The difference between 1:59 a.m. and 2:00 a.m.
(3:00 a.m. with the Daylight Saving time adjustment)
at the moment of the switch to Daylight Saving Time
in relation to the motion of heavenly bodies is 1
minute, not one hour. Humans playing with the
time-keeping methods does nothing to change
the actual chart positions, etc. Just make the
adjustment, as I note above (that most software
programs do for you).

I'd be happy to relay any specific details of
your basic natal chart, such as the precise
degree of the Ascendant, etc. to make sure
you have the right time sequence.

QUESTION: Scott

If you don't mind here is why I asked. According to EST, I have pluto at zero degrees on the ascendant.  My ascendant is Leo.  Pluto at zero degrees, as you know is a very dymanic place to be and as proof of that, as a child, I almost died from a kidney disease.  I had a transplant and I am now fine.  The rest of the natal chart is spot on to my personality with the EST configuration.

If I figure my chart on EDT, pluto is in the area of the 5th or 6th house which is not as dyanmic.

When I put the information into Astrodienst, for both EST and EDT the configurations come out the same.  But in a more precise program, the configurations come out differently.

BTW, I am also an expert on this service in the orthopedic section.  Due to the kidney transplant I have bone issues and I help others here as well.

I hope this background helps and I look forward to your answer.

Answer
Sharon,

If you would list your birth data (can send on
AllExperts privately if you want), I'd be happy to
tell you exactly where Pluto is in your basic natal
chart.

If you were born under EDT in the summer, then you
shouldn't be using EST in calculating your basic natal
chart.

I'd recommend avoiding using the Astrodienst charting.

Pluto at zero degrees might indicate what you suggest, and it
might very well not. You can't rely on any single indicator
for anything. That's a common modern astrology mistake.

Rest assured though, there are probably many, many
indicators in your comprehensive charts that symbolize
the health challenges you've had.

Sincerely,

Expertise

Please note: I DON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE. That means if you ask for a free reading, your question will be rejected.

I'm happy to answer general astrology questions, such as identifying a particular Moon sign or Sun sign that happens to be on the cusp, or identifying an Ascendant (Rising sign) or a ruler (or rulers) of a particular house, etc.

As an example, you might ask, "My 7th house (house of partnerships, relationships, etc.) cusp sign is Virgo, so which planet rules the house considering I have no planets in that house?"

Or, you might ask, for instance, "My natal Sun is on the cusp, in which sign is it?"

Again, I WON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE. Also, if your question relates to modern, psychological astrology, I won't answer it since the bulk of my predictive work is done using more ancient forms (I find them far more accurate). I won't answer questions about Chinese astrology or Vedic/Hindu astrology either.

My expertise involves the application of ancient forms of astrology (and numerology) to interpret personal fate, and assess personality and compatibility. http://www.scottpetullo.com http://www.mystictwins.com
