I hear that rats and horses are a disaster waiting to happen.  I wanted to know if the animals of the 4 pillars make a difference.  I was born on october 17, 1984 (boston, MA 1:30pm)  and he is born on March 29, 1978 (somewhere in california- i have no idea what time).  

Are we really doomed?  Any insight will be most appreciated.  Thanks so much.

Doomed is too strong a word.

It's true Rat and Horse are a bad match. This is likely to result in lots of conflicts, misunderstandings and clashes of will.

Having said that I would also ask you to consider your overall charts, which tell a different story. Your Dog day sign is a perfect match for his Tiger day sign. Also, all three of your signs (except Rat) are great matches for his Horse year sign.
