Question
Hi Bill, My name is Julie Goodrich and I am a senior in college planning to be an archaeologist.  My birthday is May 4th, 1982 at 1:32 PM in Seoul, South Korea.
I'd like to know if the choice I've made for my career is an appropriate one.  I am also in a new relationship, 8 months now with a man who has been a good friend for 8 years before our relatioship took this turn, I've never been happier nor more in love, but I am wondering if our relationship has the stuff to last, his name is Jason and his birthday is April 5th, 1979, and he doesn't know what time he was born, sorry.  Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
Hi Julie,

You were born during the year of the Water Dog, month of the Wood Snake, day of the Fire Pig and hour of the Fire Sheep.

Jason was born during the year of the Earth Sheep, month of the Earth Dragon, and day of the Water Tiger.

From a Chinese astrology perspective, this match has a 41% compatibility rating, not very good. Your signs are not all that bad, but your elements don't go together very well. For example, you have no Metal in your chart, and Jason does not have enough Metal to compensate for your lack of that element. Metal, by the way is for persistance, staying power and a fighting spirit. It's the stuff you need to keep a relationship going through hard times.

The short answer to your question, then, is this relationship can work, but the odds are against it lasting in the long term. Still, there are some good aspects to it, e.g., his Sheep year sign is a perfect match for your Pig day sign. It also looks like the sex is good. So, you should hang in there but also keep an open mind to other (better) possibilities.

As for career, here is what Lori Reid, my favorite expert, says about the Dog and career:

"Cheerful and willing, Dog people are thoughtful and helpful and, whether at the top or bottom of the ladder, often take on extra responsibilities in order to lighten the loads of their colleagues. As a consequence, they are always popular and respected members of the workforce. In positions of responsiblity the Dog is a good judge of people, possessing insight and intuition and so thoroughly honest and open that he or she inspires loyalty from the rest of the team."

To be honest, the Dog sign is not that particularly suited for a career in archaeology. Your Snake month sign, however, is. You have a lot of Water in your chart. This is very favorable for travel, which an archaeologist could do a lot, and for public speaking, which would be good if you decide to become a professor of archaeology in a university. It's also good for intellectual prowess, should you be thinking about graduate school/advanced degrees. By the way, the Snake is very much into depth. You would probably be happy continuing your education to the masters and even the doctoral level.

If you would like to learn more about your signs, i highly recommend Lori Reid's The Complete Book of Chinese Horoscopes. Also, please visit my site, www.firepig.com.

Thank u for your question.

Expertise

Chinese Astrology. I`ve done Chinese astrology for over 20 years, pimary experience Ming Shu style. I am NOT a psychic. I can't answer questions about when a particular event will occur, when/if your life will change, or what your spouse is going to be/look like. I do comment on relationships, career, personality analysis and life cycle chi, i.e., energy level and influences at each of the five stages of life. I evaluate specific relationships or can look at your love life in general. I can tell you your best career choices and whether the one you've chosen is good for you. And, I can identify the strong and weak times in your life. I've done work for Yahoo, astrology.com and onlinechineseastrology.com.

Experience

I've studied Chinese astrology for over 20 years now and done several thousand charts. My specialty is four pillars method, particularly as applied to evaluating relationships. I've also done Nine Star Ki and readings using Mah Jong tiles. My next step is to learn Purple Star astrology. It identifies many more chart details, but accurate readings are time consuming and dependent upon a lifetime of acquired experience.
