Hi Scott,
Venus will be retrograde in July 2007. I have a friend who was born with Venus retrograde in Leo (Sept. 15, 1967). What are the characteristics of those who were born with Venus retrograde? I hear that men/women tend to be unfaithful in relationships. However, I have also read that people who are born with retrograde planets tend to "flourish" during retrograde periods? Is this true? I myself was born with Mercury retrograde, but I do not feel that I am "clearer" during these times. Thanks for your help.

Hi Jennifer,
Venus retrograde is an affliction, one of many possible. Although it won't, by itself, make or break the collective body of natal considerations, it's important to examine.
You say you hear that those with Venus retro tend to be unfaithful in relationships. With enough supporting considerations, sure, but be careful with that estimation.
I'd say a combust Venus and, or a hard Venus/Mars aspect and, or otherwise afflicted Venus would symbolically contribute equally or more to the subject being overly-sensually oriented in an unfaithful way. Really, there are so many more you must consider and each case is different. Then you must examine the comprehensive numerology charts for additional support or mitigating factors.
You'll sometimes find muted expression related to Venus (e.g., sexual, or romantic) if Venus is retro.
You'll sometimes find that for those traditionally minded, marriage comes later rather than sooner in life if Venus is retro.
It all also depends on which house Venus resides in, what her ruler is (and how healthy/well positioned that ruler is) and if she has a lot or very little potency within the natal structure.
You speak of someone with Venus retrograde flourishing during a Venus retro period. Based on my experience, I wouldn't go that far, but I do believe there is some merit in that theory, although perhaps not even noticeable.
