I've studied Chinese astrology for almost 18 years now and done several thousand charts. My specialty is four pillars method, particularly as applied to evaluating relationships. My next step is to learn Purple Star astrology. It identifies many more chart details, but accurate readings are time consuming and dependent upon a lifetime of acquired experience.

Hello, I am a Capricorn metal dog (01-13-71, 215pm birth) beginning a relationship with an Aries Wood Snake (04-18-65, unknown time of birth). Can you offer indications of strengths/compatibility? Thank you.

Hi Julie,
You were born during the year of the Metal Dog, month of the Earth Ox and day of the Earth Dog.
The other person was born during the year of the Wood Snake, month of the Metal Dragon and day of the Water Tiger.
From a Chinese astrology perspective this match has a 58% favorable compatibility rating, which is good but not great.
You both are probably strong personalities, which each other needs. This could, however, be a fatal attraction, as your partner's Dragon, month sign is the worst possible match for your Dog year and day signs. On many issues and ways of thinking you are polar opposites. Also, there is not much Water in your two charts. Communications could be a problem.
Looking at everything, I would have to say this match has about a 50-50 chance of lasting and bringing you the happiness you seek.
Having said that, I should also say there are a lot of good things about it, such as the Tiger-Dog and Ox-Snake cross matches. It is certainly worth pursuing as a friendship, but you will have to answer a lot of questions before deciding on a life time commitment. To be honest you can do better, but it will not be easy because the elements in your chart are very unbalanced. You have a huge amount of Earth in your chart and not much Wood or Water. This can make you inflexible.
