About Scott Petullo
Expertise

I'm happy to answer general astrology questions, such as identifying a particular Moon sign or Sun sign that happens to be on the cusp, or identifying an Ascendant (Rising sign) or a ruler (or rulers) of a particular house, etc.

As an example, you might ask, "My 7th house (house of partnerships, relationships, etc.) cusp sign is Virgo, so which planet rules the house considering I have no planets in that house?"

Or, you might ask, for instance, "My natal Sun is on the cusp, in which sign is it?"

I DON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE, SORRY. :)

Again, I WON'T DO PERSONAL READINGS HERE. Also, if your question relates to modern, psychological astrology, I won't answer it since the bulk of my predictive work is done using more ancient forms (I find them far more accurate). I won't answer questions about Chinese astrology or Vedic/Hindu astrology either.

My expertise involves the application of ancient forms of astrology (and numerology) to interpret personal fate, and assess personality and compatibility. http://www.scottpetullo.com http://www.mystictwins.com

Subject: unaspected sun/moon

Question
QUESTION: 2 questions for you concerning unaspected planets please:
-what are the ramifications of someone with at chart with unaspected sun AND moon?
2-what is the standard/classical interpretation of conjunctions, in other words, even though a conjunction is stated as planets within 30 degrees of each other, would that be a correct interpretation in a birth chart?  i've heard that 3-5 degrees is the more accurate reading, would appreciate your take based on experience.

Thanks!

ANSWER: Hi Cathleen,

Ramifications of someone with unaspected Sun and Moon are potentially many, but you must consider the health of the Sun and Moon, their location, their rulers, and the many other considerations to narrow it down.

OK, disclaimer out of the way.

I'd like the birth data to check that out.

Unaspected ("feral") Moon and Sun could easily point to a loner. But again, you have to look at all the other indicators.

In which houses are they? Where are their rulers?  How are their rulers? Are either the Sun or Moon the most potent body of that basic chart?

Is the Sun afflicted otherwise? How about the Moon?

If female, Sun is closely related to her love life. If male, Moon is. If both are unaspected, that's a bad sign either way. How is Venus in this basic chart?

Second question regarding conjunctions:

The ancients commonly went by sign (even if 28-30 degrees apart)--as long as they were in the same sign, they are conjunct.

But you probably know that the tighter the conjunction, the more symbolic relevance it has.

I'd go by 5 degrees, but give the Sun and Moon a wider scope.

I'd use the following orbs if you want to narrow it down: Saturn 8 degrees; Jupiter 8 degrees; Mars 7 degrees; Sun 14 degrees; Venus 7 degrees; Mercury 7 degrees; Moon 11 degrees.

Moiety is when the orbs of two planets become meaningful.
Just add the two orbs together and and divide by two: Venus 7 and Mercury 7 = 14 divided by 2 = 7. So when Venus and Mercury are 7 degrees apart they are in moiety of orb. In other words, the conjunction is active, or at least more active than if they were in the same sign, let's say 26 degrees apart.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,
Scott Petullo

QUESTION: Thanks Scott..
I did not understand calculating moiety however.

Sun is 7th house scorpio (9 d.) while moon is 6th house virgo (23 d.). pluto/venus conjuncts at 2 libra which are the closest planets to moon while uranus/mars conjuncts at 20 libra, closest to sun.  Not sure these constitutes aspects? it's close but this is the question of whether sun/moon are truly unaspected.  however, 6th house covers libra 22 so based on your above explanation of everything in same house, it seems this means mars/uranus and pluto/venus all conjuncts moon--can you please confirm for me?

Juno conjuncts sun at 3 degrees but I believe that does not constitute an actual major aspect, yes?

Can you please explain/comment on afflicted planets please--not familiar with definition.

The only other major aspect in question to sun is jupiter.  jupiter is 5 capricorn (9th) (with MC at 12 cap) which seems to be sextile to sun but there again, trying to figure out the standard for how to judge aspects per my original question.  jupiter seems to be sextile per your above orb definition, can you please confirm or explain? Otherwise sun is then unaspected.

MANY THANKS!!

ANSWER: Cathleen,

You'll have to provide the exact time and place so that I can look into it. I lack the time right now, but will get back to you later today or tomorrow. A nice rating on the last question I answered might help too. :o)

the time and place:
4:20pm/kirksville MO nov 1 1972.  I know you don't do personal charts but this will help you see what I'm talking about.  I am really trying to get to the bottom of this and really appreciate your depth of knowledge and kindness in explaining to me!  THANKS!

Answer
Hi Cathleen,

Interesting basic chart.

Calculating moiety is easy. Just see the example I listed in the above content. Most software programs automatically do this for you.

Moon Ptolemaic aspects: square Saturn; trine North Node; conjunct Venus (by degree, not sign); conjunct Pluto (by degree, not sign); sextile Mercury; square Jupiter.

Sun Ptolemaic aspects: sextile Jupiter; trine Part of Fortune; sextile MC.

Sure, if Juno is conjunct Sun within 3-4 degrees, you can count it as a major aspect of the Sun to Juno.

An "affliction:" when a planet is in detriment (opposite of the sign it rules, such as Sun in Aquarius); fall (opposite of the sign it is exalted in, such as Sun in Libra); when it is in hard aspect (square, conjunction, or opposition) to a "bad" planet or indicator such as Saturn, Mars, or South Node (S.Node is "bad" according to ancient methods); when it is retrograde; combust (too close to the Sun); or other misc. rough stuff.

Yep, Sun is sextile Jupiter (see above).

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm happy to help.

Sincerely,
Scott Petullo
