Question
I live at the Grand Canyon and tonight I looked in the northwest sky and saw 2 very bright stars.  Could you please tell me what planets they are.

Answer
Hi,
In all probability you saw
1 - Venus which is the most westwards.
2 - Closely follwed by Jupiter.

Only some days ago the moon formed a conjunction with the two!

The "north / south" component comes in as the ecliptic shifts the points of intersection with the horizon as per the seasons.

But these planets by right should have been "south west".

Unless the clarity of your sky made to other stars appear bright enough so you overlooked the 2 obvious and very bright planets!

Jayen
