QuestionHello, I have read what you have worte about this experiment but I am still none the wiser of the possible outcome!!! What is the possibility of earth being destroyed? I am most concerned by this and extremely worried!!!!! I dont really understand the science side to it so can I have it explained in a way I can understand!!! Many many thanks x Jamie x
AnswerJamie,
If you read my previous answers on this topic, (and i answered 3 times already), all i can say is that scientists really "know quite a lot" nowadays, and are to be taken seriously.
The mathematics and physical theory of the atom bomb (Bohr einstien and co) and the hydrogen bomb (Teller) was really really complex.
But the yields turned out to be as precdicted.
In india, calculations done by the team regarding soild rock displacement and depth of hole to be drilled in the desert (by Anil Kakodkar's team) turned out to be very accurate indeed.
Shows how far science has matured in this regard.
The dynamics of the supernova, is so well workd out now, that the predicted neutrino flash of supernove 1987a was observed even before the actual supernove shock wave emerged from the star's surface and continued to its 2 day peak luminosity!!
The neutrino flash triggered sensors deep within the japanese mines, that were actually meant to see natural proton decay. Nevertheless, scientists immediately caught on to the significance of the "flashes" and pointed their telescopes in the right direction, to see the supernova emerging!!

[refer to para "Neutrino emissions"..on that page. The last sub-para confirms what i am saying about the reliability of scientefic theorising on many fronts..here the effect of gravity on anti-matter again turned out "as predicted"!].
All this leads me to believe the scientists rather than the dooms day guys who dont have a shred of evidence to support their rants!
here are links once again to the CERN experiment.
