Question
your answer was so helpful i have to ask another.

what are the best colleges for astronomy?

how many credit hours, years, courses, etc. that will help my career?

Answer
Hello,

The best college-university for astronomy is probably Harvard. However, the University of Hawaii also has an excellent school - especially for solar research, as is Yale.

You may also find the answer I gave below (link) informative. Included is a secondary link to the astronomy course list offered at Harvard:

Please look over those courses carefully, to make sure you know what real astronomy is about. Too many express interest in astronomy or becoming an astronomer, only to realize later there is way too much math and physics for their liking.

As to your last question I am not sure what you mean. If you have a career already, there is no assurance that even one astronomy course will help it - if it is not related somehow to astronomy. Maybe if you can clarify that further I can be of greater assistance.
