Question
just got in - walking home. there is a really bright light in the southern sky( its in the same direction our sky tv dishes point) cant be the north star. wot is it , a white dwarf from somewhere?

I'm not sure, exactly...  But the following website provides a sky map, for any location.  Enter your local information and you should be able to identify it.
