Question
Last night at approx 9:30 thru 10:30PM several bright amber light in the skies over WNY. The lights were very large compared to any other plane movement, no red, green or white marker light, no audio. Travel was mixed. South to East, South to North, North to West, etc. No distinct pattern.  We counted over 16 visuals during this time frame. LARGE AND BRIGHT AMBER. I live approx 40 miles south west of Buffalo, NY. Approx 14 miles NE of Dunkirk/Fredonia, NY on the Lake Erie shoreline. Observed these lights in early August on about 3 occassions, but never so many at one time. What was surprizing to me was the size and brilliance of amber with no audio.  I'm very fimilair with planes and helicopter and find it difficult to believe this was ordinary air traffic. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.........PAUL

Answer
Paul, wow, that is amazing stuff.  Unfortunately I have no explanation, for this kind of thing.  Maybe you could try contacting some of the people mentioned in the following article?  And don't forget to run your spellchecker program on your e-mailed queries.  It will help you to be taken more seriously.  I personally think this kind of thing is possible, so I am on your side, but if you make spelling errors it might detract from your credibility in the eyes of some.

OK, here is the article:

Expertise

I am not a professional astronomer by any means, but astronomy has been an interest of mine since childhood, and I am well-informed on the subject. If unable to answer someone`s question personally, I will know how to quickly find the answer online, because I keep myself informed about developments in the field and I know where to look for information.

Experience

I worked in an observatory for awhile at one point, doing various interesting things with a computer.
