Question
How many planets are expected to line up in 2012?

Answer
Hello Stub,

There is no unusual planetary alignment in 2012.  The most "interesting" alignment will be a transit of Venus on June 6, 2012.  That is, Venus will be seen from Earth as silhouetted against the sun.  Astronomically, it's rare and somewhat interesting.  No other planetary alignments of note will happen in 2012.
