Question
Stone From the Ocean
Stone From the Ocean
QUESTION: Hi Philip,

I found this stone in the ocean at Rockaway beach, N.Y., after the earthquake and days after hurricane Irene.
It has shiny specks like Marcasite.  I thought it might be from a meteorite.

Can you help identify it from the attached picture?

Thanks,
Carol

ANSWER: Sorry, but I really can't identify it just from the photo. Perhaps someone on the geology forum might have a better idea - or at least be able to eliminate terrestrial origin!

QUESTION: Hi Philip,

Thanks for your response.

The rate the response button is not showing. 10's across the board!!!!

Answer
Thanks for the '10s'!

Alas, I declined the rating system from about 2 years ago because I found most questioners didn't know how to allocate ratings properly (for example, assigning a '6' for timeliness when experts - at that time - had up to 3 days to respond).

But, thanks for your rating anyway!
