Astronomy/The Cassini Mission

Question
Hello,

Has The Cassini Mission launched in 1997 reached Saturn and do you have any good interrnet sources of its findings?

Thanks, Rob

Answer
Hi Rob,
Yes, Cassini went thru its 96 minute burn for SOI
(Saturn Orbital Insertion) on June 30 without a
glitch....I believe the next long burn is sometime in
September to more circularize and lower its orbit.
It's already discovered 2 new small Saturnian moons
at about 2 and 3 miles in diameter.

I keep up with it on
http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/operations/present-position.cfm
and another good site is
www.spaceweather.com and another is
spaceflightnow.com

Another site is the www.skyandtelescope.com
website.
Just check on Google and you will find many more
sites, but I prefer the NASA and JPL ones as they
are the most current.
Hope all this helps,

ADDITIONAL FOLLOW UP:
Check that....the correction burn was today for 51 minutes,
which adjusted the spacecraft for the rest of the
Saturn tour.
See NASA and JPL websites.

Astronomy has been my hobby/pasttime for over 50 years.  Currently own 3 telescopes, the largest of which is a 30 inch Newtonian truss Dob that is portable.I taught Astronomy/Meteorology at the University Level for 13 years before retiring in 1995. Being retired and home most of the time, I am able to answer all questions relatively quickly, unless it's a new moon weekend with good observing conditions.  No astrology questions please, or questions about alleged UFO picture identifications.
