Astronomy/Global Warming.... Fiction?
Expert: Steven LJ Russo - 1/4/2006
QuestionDear Mr. Russo,
I am a senior in high school writing a paper on global warming for a class called the “Theory of Knowledge.” I have just finished reading your Internet article called Global Warming: Myth vs. Reality. I find your facts fascinating, however you imply an enormous knowledge claim saying “Human activity is the least contributor of problems to the climate, and global warming, does not exist the way we have been led to believe… politicians and environmental groups that are feeding us misinformation.” How do you know that to be a fact for certain? Do you believe in the “Greenhouse Effect” at all?
I was wondering where you received your information on the Ozone thinning and then filling back up again naturally throughout seasons, water vapor being the main greenhouse gas, trees letting of Carbon Dioxide, and overall why Global Warming does not exist, because when writing this paper, I need to so-called “back you up” on your information presented.
There are so many books supporting global warming, I'm glad I was able to find your work. Now all I have to do is prove that it is valid.
-Thank you for your time, I truly appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Mark Gray
AnswerHi Mark:
Well, as far as the misinformation from environmental groups. These groups ONLY give us information based on temperatures in large cities, where large amounts of buildings and asphalt make for higher temperatures. They conveniently leave out temperature statistics from all other places, where there is either NO increase in temperature or a decrease in temperature.
A Greenhouse Effect does exist. If it didn't, the Earth would have temperatures like Mars, and we would all die.
Yes, there are many books and articles written that support Global Warming, but there are many that do not. A lot of my information came from a book called "Global Warming The Truth Behind The Myth, written by Michael L. Parsons.
A lot of my information came from first hand NASA sources, Climate Centers, Weatherwise Magazine, and my own research. For 15 years, I was a Radio and TV Meteorologist, and did much research on climate statistics from the past.
The information about the Ozone Hole appearing and disappearing is right from NASA's Goddard Spaceflight Center.
If you go back to my web site and the article about Global Warming,
http://www.look-to-the-skies.com/new_page_3.htm
Go all the way to the end and you will find "recent statements about global warming from scientists".
Now like any scientific phenomenon under study, you will always find contrasting theories. So IS there Global Warming that is dangerous. Some Scientists say yes, and some say no. I am of the faction that say NO.
Keep in mind, that the Earth's climate has been around for Millions of years, and we have only been studying climate with any detail for the past 100 years or so. So quite frankly, there may not be enough information to draw any real conclusion YET!
