Astronomy/Supernova

Question
What is the closest supernova to earth that ejected heavy metals such as iron?  When was it seen?  How far away was it?  What type of supernova was it?  What was the ejection velocity of the heavy metals?  And most importantly, if I have further supernova questions, what's a good source that I can use to find the answers for myself?
Thanks for your help Ed.   TonyT

Answer
Tony, I am on vacation, but AllExperts keeps sending me questions.  It's driving me totally nuts.  If you can try writing me back after January 4, I can help you at that time.  Otherwise, you should ask someone else.  Sorry!

Keep Looking Up,

Expertise

I am not a professional astronomer by any means, but astronomy has been an interest of mine since childhood, and I am well-informed on the subject. If unable to answer someone`s question personally, I will know how to quickly find the answer online, because I keep myself informed about developments in the field and I know where to look for information.

Experience

I worked in an observatory for awhile at one point, doing various interesting things with a computer.
