Question
Hi
I am interested in the distance of    SO 025300.5+165258    ("Teegarden's Star").   I have heard all kinds of distances from 7 ly to 12 ly.   Does anyone have any solid info on this star's actual distance or is it still as yet undetermined?
Sincerely,
Kurt Foge

Answer
Kurt,

Sorry I'm late getting back to you.  This is a tough question.  I can't find it on SIMBAD, which would have been a nice start.

This is a widespread problem.  It's almost impossible to get absolutely solid distance information on ANY star, even ones that we've known about for millenia.

I'm sorry, but I can't find much.  Try NASA.

Expertise

I am not a professional astronomer by any means, but astronomy has been an interest of mine since childhood, and I am well-informed on the subject. If unable to answer someone`s question personally, I will know how to quickly find the answer online, because I keep myself informed about developments in the field and I know where to look for information.

Experience

I worked in an observatory for awhile at one point, doing various interesting things with a computer.
