Atheism/deism

Question
hi austin.
i've been reading some about deism lately. my oversimplified take on it is that they are kind of like atheists who happen to believe in a god. i was curious what atheists generally think of deism & deists.

Answer
Deism is a type of theism. What atheists think of deism will vary from atheist to atheist - there is no single "party line" on theism generally or deism in particular. Generally speaking, atheists will probably be more favorably inclined towards deism since it tends to eliminate most supernatural beliefs and superstition; on the other hand, many atheists may find it more annoying that someone could go so far in eliminating superstition without taking the last step and just dumping belief in a god as well.
