Having seen the theoretical physics theories of super-gravity theory, string theory, and the currently accepted theory of M-Theory, it could be argued that consciousness or some higher dimensional force is at play. Don't take this as fact as it isn't yet proven, but scientists like the late Dr. Carl Sagan would explain a three dimensional being as passing through a two dimensional space as appearing to the two dimensional beings as an apparition. This can be said to be the case of a fourth dimensional being passing through the third dimension in which we reside.
Tackle hard questions like this based on your experience and a logical foundation. Don't add in skepticism until you weigh the evidence yourself and don't let biasness rule your judgement.
