Atheism/From non-being to being
Expert: Austin Cline - 1/15/2007
QuestionHi,
My question is how can The Universe come to existance from nothing?or more precisely how can anything come from non-being to being?
I'm not trying to evangelize here but personally I think the evidence for the existance of a Creator(God,
Allah, or whatever you call it)behind the universe is far more plausible than the other alternative which has simply nothing and no answer for this eternal question.
Here are 2 verses from the Koran:
Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, before We clove them asunder? We made from water every living thing. Will they not then believe? (Surat al-Anbiya, 30)
It is We who have built the universe with our power, and, verily, it is We who are steadily expanding it. (Surat adh-Dhariyat, 47)

I recommend reading Stephen Hawking's work to understand this.

Your assumption that there is "nothing" and "no answer" is based on ignorance. It's irrational and unreasonable to conclude "god did it" simply because you can't come up with anything else.
"Here are 2 verses from the Koran"
Why do you assume, first, that I am unfamiliar with the Koran and, second, that I regard it has having any relevance or authority in this matter?
AllExperts is for questions, not evangelism, but you ask a question which you don't seem to seriously want an answer to (because you proceed to assert that there is no answer) and them proceed to evangelize - even after falsely denying that you are trying to evangelize. If you aren't being deliberately dishonest, then you simply haven't taken the time to seriously examine your own motives here. Ask yourself why you really bothered to ask any question at all. If you seriously wanted an answer, why did you go beyond it and assert that there is no answer? If you didn't care about an answer and just wanted to try to evangelize, why did you think it acceptable to misuse AllExperts in such a manner? Do you feel entitled to ignore basic rules and civility in the service of your beliefs?
