Question
Hi.

Do you believe that a relationship can work between a religious person and a non-religious person?

Answer
Hello a,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you...
Well let's see, can a relationship work between a religious person and a non- religious person? My wife and I have been married for 16 years and she is a religious person. The key to a successful relationship between people of different faiths are respect and priorities. Each of you must respect the others right to believe as they wish. You must also place your relationship above all else. What I mean by that is that you both have to learn where to draw the line so that the strength of the relationship is never placed in danger. It's okay to disagree, everyone does, just remember that regardless of how right you may think you are, your mates beliefs are just as important as yours are. Lastly, try your best not to push your beliefs onto you mate. Let them know that you support them and their decisions. To give an example, my wife really felt strongly that our son be christened, not only did I support her in this I even went to the ritual with her. Does this make me a sell out to her beliefs? No, I realize that it's just a ritual and nothing more, it really means nothing other than that I care about her feelings. She of course responses by never asking me to attend church or try to make me feel guilty that I do not go. Anyway, it certainly can work if you really want it to. Let me know how it goes or if I can help with anything else.

I can answer just about any question that you may have about Atheism itself, dealing with being an Atheist in a religous world, or theological, religion based questions concerning atheism.

Experience

I became an Atheist at the age of 15 and have remained so for the past 21 years. At that time I was the only Atheist that I had ever met so I spent the next several years researching most types of religion as well as the concept itself. I am not here to convert or argue, but just to help you find the path that is right for you.
