my son is only going to be 2 years old in about three weeks he is very hyperactive cant sit still is very disruptive and hes just hitting every body around the house even when we go out in the playground or at retaliative houses i just really don't know what to do any more i don't want to be yelling at him all day all the time what do you think i should do

Answer
Dear Lizette,

Thanks for asking me your question.  I think that you should first discuss these issues with your son's doctor.  If you are able to have someone videotape him, that would be great.  You may ask the doctor for an OT (occupational therapy)  order.  It may be that your son is sensory-seeking.  He may need to have more bouncing or other input to help him focus.  An occupational therapist would be a good place to start.

If your son was a premie, be aware that many children who are born premature can be predisposed to hyperactivity.  If your son has not met his milestones for saying his first words and making sentences, makes unusual noises and spins or flaps his arms a lot, then you need to communicate that to his doctor as well.  Those could be signs of a different type of condition (autism).  He would need a speech therapy evaluation in addition to the Occupational therapy evaluation. Also mention to the doctor if you son has any problems with sleeping, like not taking a nap or or only sleeping 6 hours a night.

Occupational Therapists help children and adults with small motor issues like handwriting and also with sensory issues like learning how to calm down, and picky eaters.

Many Blessings to you for being pro-active.  Early intervention is always best.  You want to be sure that your son is available for learning as he gets older.
