Question
hi i was just put on 20mg of riddalin daily, i have heard it causes weight loss too
but i am already naturally thin, how long will it be until i see myself loosing
weight? will it be noticable? also, are there any add medications that i can avoid
because they cause the most weight loss?

Answer
Dear Ashley,

Thanks for asking me your questions.

The reason you 'might' have a bit of weight loss is because often stimulant medication decreases your appetite.  You may not want to eat as much because you don't feel hungry.  Try to eat a larger breakfast and when the medication wears off in the evening try to eat a good dinner and maybe a late night snack.

I'm not sure you will actually loose weight, but you probably won't gain any.

Since this is the medication your doctor chose, you may want to stick with it for a while to see how it's working before proposing a change in meds.  Also, you might discuss with him options of using the 'patch.' It might not affect your appetite as much (=same medication - different delivery).

Effexor and Wellbutrin are not stimulant medications that might help with ADD also.  You can also discuss those options with you MD.

Many Blessings to you.  Remember to do a lot of self-education.  You need to become an expert yourself on your condition and treatment methods - both medication and non-medication.
