Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/son with ADHD

Question
Christine, I was drawn to ask you a question based on your credentials and response to other questions.  You seem to have some background with neurochemistry. That is why I want to ask you if you are familiar with any of the new "natural supplements" for ADD, namely, "Synaptol" and "Bright Spark". My 8-year-old son has been on CNS stimulnts for about a year, and I hate the side effects, i.e., anorexia, stomachache, headache, etc.  Was wondering if you had seen any benefit to these natural supplements, or if you know of any others that really work. I have a friend who is studying to be a naturopathy, and she looked up all the ingredients in Synaptol, and recommended it. Thanks in advance.

Answer
Dear Patricia,

Thanks for asking me your question.  I apologize for the delay.  I have tried a natural product - it is called Focus Concentration.  I really liked it.  It has both gingko biloba and grape seed extract and 3 other ingredients.

I had tried gingko alone in pills and liquid, but it gave me heartburn.  This combination did not do that for me at the time.

Dr. Daniel Amen also makes some recommendations for supplements in his books, Change Your Brain, Change Your Life and Healing A.D.D.
His website is www.amenclinic.com.

I hope that helps some.  I have not tried any others to date, but I will keep my eyes and ears open about the two products you mentioned.

Many Blessings,

Christine
