Subject: Attention deficit of my child
Question QUESTION: i suspect my son who is 10 years old has the attention deficit problem. I could not able to confirm whether he really has the issue. Because whenever he plays or watches TV he never respond (or atleast 5-6 times) to your call. Similarly his teachers are also complaining he is not listening in the classes and he is always in a different world. But he studies well and memorises things so easily (not always) and plays chess well!! So we are really confused what is his problem. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
ANSWER: Dear Ravi,
Thanks for asking me your question. Since you only mentioned that he seems to have trouble responding when people are calling him, I would first get his hearing checked. If that is normal, I would suggest that you talk with his regular doctor about what else you might be seeing. ADHD usually has other signs like difficulty concentrating and sometimes some emotional and behavioral challenges. Since you didn't mention any of those things, right now I couldn't say I see signs of ADHD.
I hope that helps. If you want to write to me again with more details, I would be more than happy to respond further.
Blessings,
Christine

QUESTION: Hi Christine,
Thanks a lot for your reply. We checked his hearing last month and it seems to be proper. But I forgot to tell you some additional things about my son. is He always prefers to play alone talking to himself and rarely mingle with other children while playing. But he too talkative at normal time. Even while playing he use to play violently with soft toys like stabbing them with knife, hanging them through neck etc., Seeing these really worries us. Does he need any Child Psychologist's help or is it part of ADHD.
Thanks
Ravi
Answer Dear Ravi,
I would suggest that you see a child psychologist. A child psychologist can tell you if the behaviors you are seeing are related to ADHD or other issues. Early intervention is always best to ensure your son is available to learn while in school.
Many Blessings to you.
Christine
