Subject: Ritalin Dosage
Question Hello Dr.!
I've been diagnosed with ADHD 3 months ago. Without any further instructions, the psychiatrists prescribed me with the following: 27.5mg ritalin, 80mg Ritalin LA, 90mg Concerta - what ever works best for me (as he had it).
I'm a frantic perfectionist, and I can't really scale how each drug works for me. If I take the 27.5mg of Ritalin, I notice that after 1.5 hours of consumption - My mind wanders around. I can't "lock" it when I'm performing a simple task such as book reading.
If I take the 90mg Concerta, I found out it has different effects on me, and it might work or not work at all. Also, in after about 3-4 hours, I get "concentration dropping".
I weight 90kg if thats an important parameter, but I'm lost as it comes to calculating my dose. I tried 35mg ritalin once, and I'm not sure I can compare outcomes to the basic 27.5 I was suggested.
Any ideas? thank you!
Answer What you have told me appears to be totally inconceivable. I have never in 30 years involved with ADHD heard of treatment like this. If what you are telling me is true I would ask the doctor to explain himself before you reported him to the Medical council. On the other hand if somebody is playing the fool with me I can take a joke. Please give me exact details of how you take 27.5 mg of Ritalin? Also give me exactly how you take the medicine, exactly when you take it and for how long have you taken each medicine? You as a layman cannot be expected to compare these medications when Ritalin may last 4 hour, LA lasts 8 hours and Concerta 12 hours.
