Question
I have a 29 months old boy, he's very late in speech, he said a few words but not repeatedly the only word he repeats is mama. 3 months ago he started speech therapy. the thing that worries me more than his speech delay is his attention, he has low eye contact, he doesn't respond everytime his name is called and he does seem to daydream few times a day. He can spend more than 5 to 15 minutes playing with one toy if he's really interested in the toy other times i can't seem to make him even look at the toy. i'm very worried, can you please advise

Answer
You are on the right path by seeking out speech therapy.  The speech delay may be due to ADD or ADHD, but at such a young age no one can make that diagnosis.  There could be many, many reasons for the delay and sometimes it has an impact later, sometimes it does not...but, having sought early help gives you the best chance to make up the delay!

It would not be a bad idea to share this information with your Physician...so that he or she can do further follow up and make sure his hearing is in tact, check out his cognitive abilities, etc.

Good Luck...Norm
