Question
My daughter is nearly 12 and has been on medication for ADD for about a year and a half.  The attention part of it has gotten better as well as her being more organized but my concern is to to with her temper.  She has become very aggressive with her younger brother and sister in the last 6 months.  So much that I have consulted the doctor and he has put her on an additional med. for the aggressiveness.  Is there another way to deal with this or is it just not the right medication for her or what?  Please help me i'm getting to the end of my rope.

Answer
Hello Kim,

The question is whether she had this anger before medication or after. The first thing I would do is to research all alternative ways of handling ADD other than medication. There are many. Kids are having so many reactions to drugs and the only answer the doctors have are more drugs with more side affects and many of these drugs are highly addictive.

I have a client that is so addicted to these drugs that she has tried to get off of them (she is 30 yrs. old) and has had such withdrawals and depression that she went back on them.

I have more information for you but would need you to email me from my website, www.personalityconsultant.com. If you click on contact and email me it will send you to my personal/client email and then I can email back and forth with you and give you more information about possible traits that she might have and maybe we can get to the bottom of this problem. I will have more suggestions after I know whether she had the problem before or after medication or if she had it and it is now worse after medication.

The anger could be the frustration she feels from the effects of the medication.

I wait to hear from you.

Expertise

Behavior and learning challenges are usually caused by personality traits such as Restlessness, High Physical, Low Concentration, Wide Tolerance (spaciness), Force (anger), Aggressive, plus others. I can help in either area.

Experience

25 years experience working with families, teaching them how to work with traits so they work for you, rather than against you. As mother of seven grown children and grandmother of 19, I have seen first hand the beauty of recognizing talents and potential in a child who is difficult to raise. I could not have raised my last daughter, who had a very strong personality, without this knowledge. Besides working with families, I have worked with individuals and businesses. The challenges are always the same--learning how to work with your own traits, plus learning how to handle trait differences between yourselves and others.
