QuestionI was recently diagnosed with adult add and my doctor perscribed ritalin xr 20 ml and at first I was like a new person. I got everything done and I could focus and remember what I would read. After about a week or so I could'nt eat or sleep I became depressed. I went online for some info and the results were scarry. Everything I read about this drug scared me. I have never been a drug user. Can I take a sleepaid and or anti-depressent with Ritalin? Should I ask for something different? I am not taking any other medications besides birthcontrol. What should I do? I called my doctor and ne said to cut the pill in quarters and only take a quarter a day and if I cant see positive affects on my concentration take half. He told me to not exeed the other half until he sees me again. I need a second opinion?
AnswerAs much as I would like to help, nothing you have said makes any sense! firstly there is no RitalinXR 20mg. There is a SR 20mg. It is not very effecrive and in my opinion should not be used . Next ,if it is Ritalin SR, you cannot break and should not break it into fragmenntrs. Sleeping tablets makes ADHD worse but Ritalin is already a mild antidepressent but if really needed an antidepressent may be prescribed by your doctor.Although insomnia and anorexia can be caused by taking Ritalin it is very unlikely with the dose you are attempting to take.See your doctor for correct prescribing or get a second opinion. Ritalin is not addictive
