Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)/ADD and college

Question
Hello.

I have a question on whether or not college for the ADD student can cause 'temporary' depression. What I mean by this is that I am only frustrated, afraid to fail, and get a depressive mood when it comes to my classes and trying to do my best in studying. So far my medication isn't working [I'm on Rilatin], but I've only been on it for a little over a week now. My last medication made me feel depressed all the time [Strattera], and I also wonder if somehow it is still affecting me.

But I am not depressed any other times, and I still enjoy the classes I've always liked - though it is even difficult to concentrate in those classes as well.

I guess I wanted to know what sadness to expect with my ADD and when I should start to consider it more of depression.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read this and have a wonderful day - God bless!

Theresa

Answer
Non treatment or ineffective treatment could lead to depression if the person had ADHD/ADD. Strattera, may work for some, others not, but is seldom causes depression. however the dose must be enough and it may take 8 weeks to start working. Ritalin, in correct doses will show results in as little as 10 days. Depression is never tempoary, but may be situational. As youy have not gicen doses it is difficult to comment further.
