Question
Dear Dr. Levin,

Is there a test more conclusive than the ADD questionnaire for diagnosing the condition?
Thank you for your time.

Laura

Answer
Dear Laura, I certainly hope so! Apart from a questionnaire, there are rating scales completed by parents and treachers. Before doing a neurological examination looking for spesific aspects of ADHD,the family history, birth history, developement history, medical history and educational history is reviewed. Eyes ,ears and intellegence is also evaluated. Seeking spesific talents in certain ADHD patients is also important. Family circumstances and school opportunities are screened and discussions with teachers are all part of the assessment. Very seldom is Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, Remedial and Psychotherapy input needed but remain possiblitiies. EEG is very seldom needed. Obviously in an adult the assessment is some what different but never only a questionnaire. I do not use "Tova" .
