Question -
Is it possible to lead me to documentation on the nexus between Ritalin therapy and vocal/phonic tics in adults?

The details on my continuing employment saga may be found in this link:www.cutv.com/ERPittman.htm

Essentially I was forced to retire from the US Postal Service after 35 years service because of intermittent "humming" which I now believe might be medication related.

What would be extremely helpful would be a url/link showing that humming could be a side effect of ritalin therapy.

Note:  I have no "problem" with the humming, which bothers me quite a bit but does not, in my opinion, render me unemployable.

What I want is to return to my previous employment and am not pursuing any claims against the manufacturer.

Any "pursuit" would be in the direction of the physician retained by the postal service who failed to obtain adequate information, but that's another issue.

I can provide additional information, if needed.

HELP!!!

Answer -
Tourettes Syndrome may, as part of the condition have symptoms of vocal tics. Tourettes is often associated with Attentional Deficit disorder (ADD).The most frequently used treatment for ADD is Ritalin. Ritalin as such cannot cause Tourettes, but may precipitate the symptoms. Initially doctors felt Ritalin could not be used with Tourettes. Currently the opinion is it may, as ADD is far more important than Tourettes. However, if both conditions co-exist it is possible to treat both simultanously and successfully. You do not need proof for well established medical principals, and any doctor will know these facts and discuss your options. As to being excluded from employment for a treatable medical condition, you should consult with the legal profession in conjunction a medical expert.I am sure you would have a strong case for unfair dismissal, especially if successful treatment is available. good luck!

What is needed, IMHO, is an url link that describes the connection.

I do not believe what I experience is "Tourette's".

I have been unable to locate any legal professional willing to champion my cause, even though according to the rules of our bargaining unit contract, any attorney fees would have to be paid by APWU.

I need what "everybody knows" set forth in plain language documentation.

I doubt, but could be confused, that quoting your answer would bring down the house of cards.

Even after all this time (almost 7 years) I want to return to work.  <sigh>

Answer
That you do not believe you have Tourettes is of course your unprofessional opinion. If you wish to further your persuit you will have to consult with a medical expert who will first examine, then diagnose and then inform you about the options you have regarding treatment. You may quote me or not, as you wish. You asked my opinion and you have it.I cannot explain why no legal professional will not champion your cause.
