Question
i am currently seeing a psychiatrist
that is prescribing concerta (for ADHD) - he only does medication management - in & out of his office in 10 minutes - i know ANY md can prescribe this medication - but the psychiatrist i'm seeing insists that only another psychiatrist (expert in ADHA and/or expert in concerta) SHOULD prescribe this medication and not a general MD - is ADHD and/or concerta so specialized as to warrant this kind of concern? thanks!

Answer
Although any doctor can prescribe this medication I am of opinion that only doctors who have a special knowledge and insight and have monitoring systems at their diposal should be invólved. Councillng is just as important as medication and the doctor must be prepared to do this as well when required.
