Question
There is a girl I recently met that flirts a lot with me. All the signals are there but
when i asked her if she had a boyfriend she said "yes." Is she lying? If so, why?
All my friends see the flirtation. I don't get it!

Hello Kevin!

Oh Kevin! EVERY GIRL has a "boyfriend"! Don't you know that? OF COURSE she's going to tell you this - even if she really, really likes you!

This is what I call the "empty restaurant" syndrome.

Let's say that you're in the city and you're hungry. You see two restaurants there. One of the is filled with customers and the other one is completely empty. Which one do you choose? The busy one, right? After all, those customers must know something you don't.

Women work like this too. They never want you to think that they don't have boyfriends! It makes them look (in their own eyes) like they're not worthy of one - maybe you! Thus, they'll ALWAYS tell you they have a "boyfriend" when in fact, these may very well be simply guys that don't know how to pull the trigger with the girl and MAKE her a real girlfriend. Instead, they hang around and become the friend first hoping the girl will do all their work for them and they won't risk getting shot down. These are "boy-friends", not "boyfriends".

Even if she has a REAL boyfriend or a boy-friend makes absolutely no difference. Women are always willing to "date up". That's why I constantly say that it's harder to KEEP a girl than to steal one away from someone else.

Thus, you have to tell her, "So what? Is this 'boyfriend' [assume he's not a real one] everything you could ever hope for? Because if not, you need to get to know me. Now, clear next Friday [or whenever] and let's get together for ... [whatever]."

Notice how I didn't wait for her answer? Notice how I went right back to the close for the date?
