Subject: ECT sensor on 2.7T

Question
Hi Jan:
I've seen many posts on location of the ECT sensor on various Audi models, but none descriptive enough of a 2000 2.7T.  Might you be able to describe (a picture would be wonderful) in some detail where the thing is, and what the best procedure is for replacing it?  Does coolant leak out when it's removed?  Do I need to buy any ancillary parts also (O ring, clip, tube, etc)?  I've read about all these things but don't know if they all apply to my model.

Thankns,
Dave

Answer
Hi Dave,  Well Jon was the most recent one to replace it on a 2.7T; it is located behind the cylinder head in a coolant rail on the passenger side (in the US) i.e. the right side of the car as you sit in it.  Yes coolant will leak out (a little) do the job cold, the sensor can simply be replaced.  Good luck,  Jan
