Subject: audi a6 flooding

Question
QUESTION: hi i am having problems with my Audi a6 it has started to flood under the passenger seat and has also made its way into my engine . my daughters tried to bring it to my mehanic because as she was driving it around smoke started to come out of every where they eventually had to tow it there. i left it with my mecanic and he told me it had happened due to leaves blocking up a drainage pipe so then it made its way into the car behind the passenger seat. i brought it home the follwing week , left it out side my house it was also raining that nite and then i went out the follwing morning to find it happened again ! i also would like to know how it got into the engine

please help

ANSWER: I do not see a way that the flooding made its way into the engine.  Tall story.  I would check the seal around the windshield, this is typically the reason why water gets into the passenger compartment. Why do you think water got into the engine?  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: they reason how i know is because my oil had gone grey from water getting into it. and would you know why it started to smoke im just a bit curious. thanks for the answer  it will help .

ANSWER: If it starts to smoke this could be due to a blown head gasket, or other engine problems where water gets into the oil; again I do not believe this is rain water getting into the engine, the problems you describe may not be connected.  What exactly is the history?  Did the car overheat?  Let me know,  Jan

QUESTION: yes the car did overheat. what happend exactly is i got a call when i was on my holidays my daughters told me that my car started to smoke out of everywhere and she got a horrible smell and noticed a flood behind the passenger seat. she brought it to my mecanic and he said water is in the old and he said it is due to leaves and the drainage pipe is clogged up?. i gave it baack to him and he said there isnt a blown head gasket? i really dont know what is wrong. pleae help

Answer
I believe the water in the passenger compartment is due to blocked drainage due to leaves, this is quite possible.  The engine problem I do not believe to be associated with that.  I would get a compression check done, and establish where the water is coming from; it could be numerous places. Head gasket is the cheapest...  But you could have a cracked head, cracked block or another serious engine issue that results in water mixing with oil.  Did the car get driven through a flooded river or something?  In which case it may just need to be dried out...  Let me know,  Jan
