Subject: problem with warning lamps

Question
Hi, I know its not audi but vw, but you perhaps cen help me. I have a vw passat 1.9 tdi PD, 03 reg. About an hour age during journey starts flashing me warning lamps of anti-lock brake system (abs)and electronic stability program (esp) then after few second glow plugs lamp go on. Since then ABS and ESP lamps are still on and glow plug lamp is flashing. except that car drives and brakes as usualy, but I notice that my brake lights are not working. Can you help me? Thanks Jan

Answer
It sounds like one of the wheel speed sensors is intermittent, which will cause the ABS and ESP lights to come on.  I am not sure why your glow plug lamp is lighting up; Audi's typically do not do that ;-) The brake light switch is notorious on all VW's, it is a fairly easy repair which is done by removing the panel in the footwell, and replacing the switch which is located on the brake pedal arm.  Good luck,  Jan
