Question
I had to replace the battery in my car and need to find the serial number on the stereo unti so that I can call the dealership to get the security code to use my stereo again.  I have never installed or uninstalled a radio unit and was wondering if you have ever encountered this problem and can tell me where the serial number would be located?  I am hoping there is an easier way than paying the dealership $100 to take it out and tell me what it is!!

Additionally when I set the alarm on my car instead of beeping the horn my car make a hard grinding/whirring noise that makes me think my alarm is not working properly.  Any thoughts?  Dealership also wants $100 just to look at it!! thanks

Answer
Hi Mel,
Check out ebay for people selling code busters, fraction of what you would pay a dealer to use the same product, just type in "radio codes" into 'search' and you should get over 20 choices for a couple of bucks.
Removing the head unit requires removing the facia of the dash and the radio is screwed in behind that, the number is on the case.

When you say, "car horn", I assume you mean the main "getthehelloutamyway" horn on the car and not a seperate siren as normaly fitted to an alarm.

If I didn't know better I would say the horn is not getting sufficient voltage and is 'rumbling' instead of blasting out, you get the same sound with a flat battery. Could be a number of things including a duff horn, internal relay, alarm output. $100 may seem a lot but if it cures the problem it could be your best option other than a complete new unit!
All the best, Peter
p.s. don't forget the feed back so I know how I am doing.
Regards, Peter
p.s. don't forget the feedback, thanks.
