Question
Like Derek's question on a possible short (6/3/06 question/response)on a 98 Explorer radio, I have a 98 Explorer XLT with factory radio that intermitently looses the display (station and time).  You indicated the amp rcu/tuner box may be the problem - possibly a loose connection. From your reply, I'm not sure about the location of the box.  Is it in the rear cargo area of the vehicle?  Behind the wheel well covering panel? I know there is a control box of some sort - associated with the alarm system in the left (driver side) rear panel that is also the storage place for the jack.  Is the tuner box on the opposite side (right) from the location of the jack?  This problem is the only one I have with the vehicle, which I bought new in 1999 and have over 125K on.  With the exception of the display light going out randomly, the factory stereo/radio/single CD system seems to work fine.. Appreciate your reply.  Joel

Answer
this is a diferent radio the problem is inside the radio
if this is the am/fm/cd/tape radio

take radio out open the radio  next to the cd  left side there is a small board on screw in back of the radio to remove
put it on a table and resolder the resistors  there is 4 or take them out and clean them no need for new ones
this is the power suply board and it runs very hot

good luck
