Question
I read a problem that sounded exactly like mine and your response was to replace the unit.My existing unit cuts in & out and at times will quit completely. It does seem to be heat related. My question is can I use any decent quality aftermarket radio and can I also use the wiring adapter kit that is available from places like Crutchfield. Does the factory radio (Infinity system) have an external amplifier? I noticed a fuse (20 amp)for one in the fuse block when I was troubleshooting my radio. If there is an external amp, does the aftermarket wiring adapter run through it or should I even worry about it>

Answer
as far as i know, you have to use the exact same unit if you have an external amp in order for it to work. if you do have an amp, that's probably where your problem is. you might have to visit your local auto parts store to get a model specific manual for your car in order to locate your amp. after that, visit a junkyard for replacement amp. the wiring adaptors normally apply on a non-amped system, unless specified for use with factory amp system.... hope this helps a little, anyway.......
