Question
Hi there,

I have a 2006 Chevy SIlverado 1500 with out a CD player in it.  I'm wanting to install one, but am gettig mixed answers as to what exactly is wired through the stereo that would require the extra $100 harness.  The door chimes is the one thing everyone agrees is wired through the stereo.  My question is on the check engine light, air bags etc..  I have heard that they are wired through the stereo as well, and that any factory warranty regarding these things would be void... but others say it is just the door chime.  I even tried calling the local dealership and the parts guy wasn't sure exactly what was wired through the stereo.  Can you help?  I realllllly don't want to spend an extra $100 for a door chime...

Thanks!

Answer
HELLO:
THIS IS WHA GOES TO THE RADIO
door chime when door open keys on the ignition lights on and any other warning from the vehicle
passanger airbag
check engine light
cluster gas gauge and low fuel warning
sometimes rpm gauge
ALL THIS STOP WORKING WHEN YOU REMOVE THE RADIO
also onstar and bose amplifier if you have them
so yes you need to have the interface $100.00 is not that bad some shops charge up to $180.00
but here is where you can get it for $90.00 they have free shipping if you call them  to order
