Question
QUESTION: it's an xlt model with premium sound. i replaced the 6 cd changer original from the wrecking yard since it had started skipping and not playing some cd's and skipping the songs. everything is working fine now, but the sound quality is nothing and the bass and trebble is not working at all and the woofer at the back side panel is not working at all. do i have to replace only the amplifier or the woofer too? how much does it cost if i buy used and how do i open and replace it. thanks.

ANSWER: wrong radio
the radio in your vehicle is the premium sound with jbl opption for factory amplifiers
the unit you instal in the vehicle is the basic radio

you need to find the same radio with the 3 plugs in the back

QUESTION: it's not a wrong radio, and i did'nt replace that. It is still intact at it's original place in the dash, and i have never touched it. I had only replaced the 6 cd changer which is seperate in the centre consol / under the arm rest glove compartment (not in the dash) and that has nothing to do with the radio. that's only i had replaced with the same one and original piece. but not having the bass or woofer working at the back of my 97 explorer 4dr xlt.  i think my amp which is located along with the woofer in the rear passenger side of the back panel is bad. So is it the amp or the woofer?

Answer
it can be any most of the time is the woofer
to remove the woofer out of the box firts you have to remove the box out of the vehicle or move it to the front
there is one more screw from the back holding the magnet
good luck
