I have two AV receivers that have varios input and output abilities. The main unit (Denon) can put out a digital audio signal (optical connection) and the other can receive - problem is that they are about 100+ft apart (cable length) and that is not recommended with some sort of repeater. Can I connect them with simple audio connections (red+white)? I think I remember hearing that that also has distance restrictions. How would you recomend connecting them?

Here are some options:

markertek.com sells optical to coax converters, You can run digital coax that far without issue.

bluejeanscable.com has a low capacitance cable (BJC LC-1) that is suitable for long runs.
The problem with long analog lines is capacitance in the cable building up and cutting your high frequencies. If you use a broadcast quality cable, this effect is greatly minimized - and most retailers have nothing like this (usually it's chinese sourced RG-59).

You could look into IR transmitters and receivers as well.
