Question
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer.  I have the power antenna.  My problem is that when I go to use the radio I cannot pick up stations all the time.  I can pick up stations only in certain spots and times of day.  I have tried to replace the factory radio with another radio but even a new radio has the same problems.  How would I go about fixing this problem so that I could pick up radio stations?

Answer
the problem is the radio, it always happens they always lose the fm and give problems when it gets hot
the radio needs to be repair or replace,
the problem is that you never replace the radio, that unit at front is the controller that is why there was no antenna plug, it is not a radio

the ford radio is in the back cargo area right side near the  factory woofer

unit looks like this

you can also buy a rebuilt unit from the same link  no sub out $90.00
but it is best to buy the digital sub radio  for $140.00
