Audio Systems/Error Code Saab Tape Player

Question
I have an '04 Saab 9-5 and want to play my XM radio through my tape player. When I insert the XM cassette I get an error code E03. Do you know what that means?

Answer
An error code means the player is not able to play the cassette.  It is not accepting the signal.  Either it is incompatible or is applying a signal to the pickup heads that cannot be read by the player.

First: Check the tape player with a conventional cassette to make sure the player is working as expected.

Second: Play the XM cassette into another player; home shoebox player or another car player to verify it is not defective.

Third:  Contact the maker of the XM cassette and see if they have compatibility problems with the Saab radios - I don't know of any but they might.

Fourth:  Check the reversal settings on the radio player to make sure it is not hunting for tape reversal instead of playing the dummy cassette.

Hope this helps. Let me know more if you don't solve the problem.
