Audio Systems - Sylvania Monitor

Expert: Cleggsan - 10/30/2009

Question
I just bought a used Sylvania 6842PE M Monitor and needed to know if it can be hooked to my computer and what would be needed. Thanks in advance. Pete

Answer
Why do you want to hook it to the computer?  As a monitor? Or, as a display for movies and mpgs?

This monitor has composite video, component video inputs. To feed it a signal from the pc you will need an output of that type.  Check the specs on your pc.

This monitor also has composite video and analog audio outputs.  To feed these signals into the pc you will need a board that accepts these signals.

This unit is really a consumer tv; it is not a pc monitor.  It is not intended to be used with a pc, probably, and you will need to check the specs on your pc carefully to find out what additional I/O devices you may need.

I do not recommend connecting consumer tv sets to pcs due to grounding and other potential problems. You are better off to purchase a PC Monitor if you want a bigger display in place of a small screen.

Hope this helps.
