Question
hey,
right now i have a stock system in my 2001 jeep cherokee. Would i need to get all new speakers if i put two twelve inch subs, head unit and amp in?

Answer
No. You can use the existing speakers if you want - if they are good enough quality.  Keep in mind they may not handle the extra power if you replace the head unit with one having much more power.

And, you need to make certain the impedance rating of the amp is compatible with the impedance of the speakers now in the unit.

The jeep Cherokee of that year came with Infinity speakers in the deluxe sound system.  They would be good/better quality.  If it is not the Infinity system you may want to upgrade the speakers.

One of the Infinity systems had its own additional amplifier to power the speakers.  If so in your vehicle you must locate it and decide if you want to use it or replace it with the new amplifier system.

Hope this is clear;  if not give me another shout.

PS: Here is the wiring chart for your Cherokee:

If your head unit has rca outputs you can connect directly to the rca inputs of the new amp with coax cable.  That is the easiest way.  If you add just one amp for the subs you will need to decide how to drive the existing speakers.  If the head has internal amps that is ok but often you find they don't drive with enough output to match up with the subs.  In the long run you may need two amps;  a 2 channel one to drive the subs and a 4 channel one to drive the cabin speakers.
